If you believe you live in a Free universe you will end up living in a Deterministic universe.
If you believe you live in a Deterministic universe you will end up living in a Free universe.
This is quite a big one for me. I’ve always believed I live in a Free universe but I can see looking back that I’ve always lived my life in a Deterministic way. Going to work, coming home again, what to buy at the shop and so on. Whereas now I’m coming round to believe I live in a Deterministic universe and the hope is that I will end up living in a Free universe.
As a case in point I chose a different coffee shop this evening. I drove to Costa in Tesco’s, Oxford whereas I usually go to Starbucks. It gave me an opportunity to pace all the way up and down every aisle in the supermarket. For someone who doesn’t get much exercise this is a major improvement.
Half way round I encountered a toddler in a trolley who reached out to me as if to say “please pick me up”‘. His mother apologised for his behaviour but I didn’t mind a bit. It was as if he was responding to my aura in some way, so I took it as a compliment.
If you dispense with the Law Of The Excluded Middle then perhaps we live in a universe that’s half way between Free and Deterministic. Would that be a Probabilistic universe?
